WOMEN EMPLOYED

Rise Design contributes to the full-time employment of 5 women who are rising out of extreme poverty in the slums of Kolkata, India. Rise Design partners with Kiran Social Enterprises, a NGO in Kolkata that is a training & vocational center for women. (www.kiranse.com) Steady employment in a safe and dignified environment is where real, generational change can begin. Dignifying work and the freedom of self sufficiency allows women artisans to take steps in rising out of poverty.

ECONOMICALLY EMPOWERED

With a steady source of income from various artisan projects, these women are making above fair-trade wages, which allows them to support their families in numerous areas. All 5 women are able to send their children to school, and provide all the necessary uniforms, school books and supplies. They have access to healthcare for themselves and their families, as well as enough income for healthy food and necessary home improvements.

CREATIVELY INSPIRED & PREPARED FOR THE FUTURE

With the training and development received at Kiran, these 5 women can build and improve their handcraft skills, securing an alternative direction for future employment. Rise Designs along with Kiran Social Enterprises, provides a steady & safe work environment where creativity and inspiration can grow & flourish.

SOCIALLY, EMOTIONALLY & SPIRITUALLY  TRANSFORMED

It is amazing what can be accomplished in a positive, supportive and hope-filled work environment! Being an economically valuable asset to their families dramatically reduces the occurrence of spousal abuse, which is sadly very common. Employment of these women helps to keep their daughters and other young girls in school as well. Education has been seen to lessen the chances of childhood marriage. And in turn, presents possibilities and opportunities for future generations of young women. Having a deep sense of dignity and contributive value to the health of their family undoubtedly stretches outward through their children and into their communities. Freedom, confidence and sense of worth are invaluable elements to the identity of a woman. Rise Design seeks to make a spiritual impact in the lives of these women.

TAKING NEXT STEPS OUT OF EXTREME POVERTY

With fair wages earned, these women are able to put extra funds towards their next steps to rise out of extreme poverty. This could mean more nutritious food, rent, medicines, schooling, home building, paying off debt etc. Apart from the financial benefits of working with Kiran, there is a deep sense of confidence in becoming an agent of change for their families. Having more influence in financial decisions is a significant factor in families where the men can drink excessively or channel funds away from the family in other ways.

STARTING A TREND FOR THE FUTURE

A Rise Design purchase provides income to women in Kiran’s training program while also helping to fund the growth of the program.  Kiran is able to pay the women wages at above minimum fair trade guidelines (and well above local wage rates). As well as employing and paying these women an above fair-trade wage, Rise donates 10% of all sales to Kiran. All this in hopes of impacting more women in the Kolkata area in the years to come. We desire for empowerment, blessing & provision to be imbibed into these 5 women so that they may pass it on to those around them.
